Being able to gauge the environment is instrumental in sensitivity management. The point is, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT SITUATION YOU ARE CALLING INTO.
For example, I have been on conversations where you can tell the other person on the line is preoccupied. I say immediately, “Let me call you back at another time. I can tell you are very busy.” Then the person will either say no, let’s talk or simply, “I’d appreciate that,” and we hang up. You can miss the opportunity to be sensitive to the needs of the person on the other end.
To be successfully, you must be aware of the surroundings into which you are dialing!
